Q: What’s the typical turnaround time for translation?
Dawn Powell: The AI translation offers a significant advantage with its instant translation capabilities. Traditionally, we use the marketplace for translations, which can take a couple of days to a week to return translations for our English content. Currently, we’re exploring a use case for AI translation due to the progress we've made with our content. We're applying it to a different aspect of our marketing efforts beyond our digital e-commerce digital shelf. AI translation can complete translations in minutes, whereas the marketplace timeframe can vary depending on the content and location. There’s a lot of potential to make the process more efficient with AI.
Q: How does setup work? How do the two platforms integrate?
A: It's actually very simple. It's just a few clicks and one or two copy-pastes to set up the integration. It really only takes a matter of minutes to complete.
Q: What happens if you discover some errors in the translation? How are they fixed?
A: Before, there was a high chance of error when uploading spreadsheets. Having the integration set up has made it exponentially faster for my team and removed errors. Now, they just click a button and follow simple steps. It's much easier to work within a UI rather than figuring out how to upload a spreadsheet, which can become cumbersome with different languages and numerous columns.
Q: Can it also work with video? We have a lot of video assets, I see Kids2 links to video in YouTube
A: You can dub videos into nearly 250 languages. The process is straightforward: simply drop the video in, and it will create the dub, which you can then export. It's quite simple and easy from start to finish.
Q: Are there any limitations that Kids2 saw as you were internationally expanding using translations? Or things we should be considering as we’re starting?
A: We benefited a lot initially from using the marketplace to establish our brand voice. Now, with consistent translations, the AI piece is becoming much easier to use because we already have that historical data in Smartcat.
Q: How many people work in Salsify?
A: We have about 20 users in Smartcat across our creative team, which handles packaging and images, and our e-commerce team, which handles product copy. We have a variety of people working with our content at any given time. In Salsify, we have around 250 users.
