Webinar Q&A

Q: How does Smartcat ensure security of proprietary information? How is this kept out of the general training of the LLM?

A: At Smartcat, we prioritize the security and privacy of our customers' information. Firstly, we do not use our customers' documents to train our language models. This ensures that your proprietary content remains confidential and is not utilized for any external training purposes.

Secondly, we have implemented a robust screening mechanism to review the documents you provide for personal data and corporate confidentiality. This process ensures that any course created does not contain sensitive personal information. We take security very seriously. All data is encrypted both in transit and at rest, and we maintain strict isolation of your information. You can trust that your data is handled with the utmost care and security at Smartcat. Feel free to let us know if you need any further adjustments!

Q: Could you provide a list of file types you can input and output, please?

A: At present, the platform primarily works with text files such as Word, PowerPoint, and PDF. However, there are plans to expand capabilities by the end of this year to include audio and video recordings. This enhancement will allow users to create learning materials or training content directly from meeting recordings, streamlining the process of transforming discussions into educational resources.

Q: What responsibility to licensing and copyright do we have when we feed it different content such as PDFs to make the courses?

A: At Smartcat, we share responsibility with our customers when it comes to the content they provide. We trust that any PDFs or materials submitted to us are obtained legally, as we cannot oversee every aspect of content acquisition. If you bring in resources such as books or other materials, we expect that they are not stolen or infringing on copyright.

Our role includes monitoring for any unusual content. If we identify a document that appears to contain personal data or raises concerns, we will inform you. Ultimately, you retain ownership of the content you provide, and our purpose is to assist you in transforming that content into valuable knowledge.

Q: My company has brand guidelines. We can use only those colors and images that reside in our brand house. Can Smartcat generate courses that match the brand guidelines?

A: Soon Smartcat will introduce exciting new features, including enhanced design and theme customization options. Users will be able to change colors, fonts, logos, and more, providing greater flexibility in personalizing their content. The team is diligently working to deliver these updates very soon!

Additionally, Smartcat values user feedback and continuously integrates suggestions into the product. Recently, the platform has expanded its offerings by adding numerous new languages and content types, reflecting its commitment to growth and evolution. This ongoing development ensures that users can look forward to a more versatile and responsive experience in the future.

Q: Is it possible to limit the Rise components to only use ones that meet WCAG standards?

A: Yes, Smartcat is actively working on enhancing accessibility features in an upcoming release later this year. The goal is to provide equal learning opportunities for everyone, regardless of their disabilities. Specifically, Smartcat is focusing on supporting users with vision impairments and other disabilities. This includes the ability to not only visually consume content, but also have it read aloud via text-to-speech functionality. However, Smartcat will not be supporting every single Rise element initially. The team is prioritizing the most critical elements that can be effectively recreated to enable content accessibility. Smartcat is extremely interested in collaborating with those who can provide valuable insights to ensure the platform is inclusive and empowering for all learners.

Q: Can you talk more about translation? How many languages are covered, and does it use a specific translation engine or LLM?

A: Smartcat has extensive expertise in translation, utilizing a combination of proprietary translation engines and human validation workflows to deliver high-quality results. The platform leverages multiple machine translation engines, including Google, Microsoft, Yandex, Baidu, DeepL, Amazon, and ModernMT, selecting the most appropriate engine based on the specific language pair and content type.

To further enhance translation accuracy, Smartcat employs translation memory, which learns from the edits and adjustments made by users. The more content that is translated and refined within the platform, the more the translation memory improves, leading to better quality translations in the future.

Additionally, Smartcat's translation engines are constantly being updated and optimized based on user feedback and edits. Any changes made to translations are fed back into the system, allowing the machine learning models to continuously learn and adapt, delivering increasingly accurate results over time.

This combination of multiple translation engines, human validation, and machine learning enables Smartcat to provide a best-in-class experience for translating content, including courses, into various languages. The platform's ability to select the most suitable engine for each language pair and continuously improve through user input sets it apart in the translation space.

Q: Since you're using Synthesia avatars, can we make our personal avatar too? Or all these premade avatars?

A: Smartcat offers flexibility when it comes to using avatars for video translation. Users have two options:

  1. Use Smartcat's included Synthesia avatars: In this case, Smartcat will bill you for using their video translation abilities. This is a convenient option if you don't have your own avatar library.

  2. Use your own custom avatars: If you have a library of avatars you prefer to use, you can attach your account to Smartcat using an API key. This allows you to leverage your own avatars, and Smartcat will bill you separately for everything you do directly through the API, but still within the Smartcat platform.

So in summary, Smartcat supports both their built-in avatars as well as the ability to bring your own avatars to the platform via API integration. This gives users the flexibility to choose the option that best fits their needs and existing resources.

Q: Can we do a trial version of Smartcat?

A: Yes, absolutely! Users can access a trial version of Smartcat's course creator. This will allow you to explore the features and capabilities firsthand. You will also have the opportunity to schedule a meeting with our team for a more in-depth look at the platform and to create content that meets your specific needs. We encourage you to take advantage of this trial to see how Smartcat can enhance your content creation process. We're excited for you to try it out!
