Webinar Q&A

Q: What AI engine(s) do you use?

A: We have various AI & MT translation engines connected to Smartcat and select the best match depending on languages you want to use for localization.

Q: Do you have to train these engines prior to picking which to use for a particular language or is it just assigned to specific language types?

A: The way our intelligent routine algorithm works is by taking into account the content and the language pairs. It uses a proprietary algorithm on our side to choose which engine would be best for that type of content.

That behavior can be customized as well, but there are no upfront requirements to be able to use that functionality. It's available from day one as soon as you start using the Smartcat platform.

Q: How do you select a translation language with a conversational tone versus academic or text book tone?

A: One of the benefits of AI translation engines is how customizable they are. You can prompt LLMs in natural language, instructing them as you would a human linguist in many cases.

We have clients who use this for various use cases, including making the target a 5th-grade reading level. It's very flexible and customizable, depending on your needs.

Q: Does Smartcat support a dictionary function for jargons used for b2b website content?

A: We typically use a glossary for that purpose. It would encompass any industry-specific terminology, product names you want translated in a specific way, or terms you want retained in the source language.

We can instruct our AI engines to automatically insert preferred terminology. This is one way AI learning and AI translation work together to get the output closer to your final needs.

Q: Do you have a mapping of all the steps required by content authors to send, receive and publish translation content and which can be automated? Obviously slightly different for each CMS.

A: Our help center has breakdowns of how the process works and how to use the connectors from the end-user perspective. We're also committed to onboarding and training. Once you start using one of our connectors, my team and I will fully onboard you and ensure all end users are trained appropriately. We provide a lot of support for that.

Q: Being an AI, how do you handle prompt creation?

A: You have the ability to customize your own prompts, and we can support that. Some clients are self-sufficient and prefer to train and test their own prompts.

Within the platform, you can set your own custom AI translation presets. You can create multiple presets for different purposes and use cases. All of this is available natively in the platform.

Q: Can requests to in-house teams be integrated in management systems like FlowFit?

A: We have an API that supports a wide variety of integration scenarios. It may require some technical discovery with the platform in question, but all of our platform's functionality is available via API for integration needs. You'd want to discuss this with our tech team.

Q: When translating to Spanish, is there a setting to choose an informal (tú) tone versus formal (usted)?

A: One of the benefits of AI translation engines is their high level of customization. We can support various tonality requirements, including formal and informal tones.

We also offer many variants of the Spanish language.
